Guidelines for Electronic File Submission
- Please include all fonts and graphics used in submitted files. InDesign, Quark and PageMaker all have utilities that will collect font and graphics. Fonts in Illustrator can be converted to outlines/paths to ensure compatibility, however they will not be editable, should a type revision need to be made.
- Electronic graphics for printing should be in .tif or .eps format, or in native application format (Photoshop file, Illustrator file, etc).
- Continuous tone art (such as a photograph) should have a resolution of 300 dpi and line art should have a resolution of 1200 - 2400 dpi.
- Graphics pulled from a web site will not be suitable for printing, because of the low resolution.
- Art that needs to color separated should be created in Illustrator, FreeHand, Quark, InDesign or PageMaker.
- Publisher can be used very well for digital printing and for lithography if files are prepared properly for color separation. Please consult with our prepress department. Please use “Pack and Go” feature to embed fonts and graphics.
- Color art in Photoshop will only be seen by the computer as a 4-color build, and will not separate into PMS colors (an exception to this is if the art is a duotone. In that case one or both colors can be assigned a PMS color, and will separate).
- PDF files will work for Digital and most Litho production. Color separations are possible if the postscript file is created that way. PDF for print should always be rendered at “print” or highest resolution.
If you have further questions about preparing your files please contact our digital prepress department.
